List of Publications

Air Cycle

Andrew Gigiel has been an enthusiast for air-cycle refrigeration since 1987 when he saw that its use offered a way of extending the range of processing and storage conditions for food.    He has developed air cycle systems for food freezing, retail display cabinets, transportation and air conditioning.

Refrigerated Transport

Experience of research into the temperature control of refrigerated cargoes during transport.    Andrew Gigiel has written a commercial mathematical model to predict cargo temperatures during transport.

Domestic Refrigerators

CCC Consultants has redesigned the refrigeration circuits of the domestic and commercial refrigerators produced in 5 companies in China and Egypt and converted their production lines from R12 (a CFC ozone depleting refrigerant) to R134a (non ozone depleting synthetic refrigerant) and R600a (non ozone depleting natural refrigerant).

Meat Chilling

Andrew Gigiel has extensively researched the unit operations of pork, beef, lamb and goat chilling.    This research has led to the development of spray, ice-bank and immersion chilling systems.

Tender Meat

At the AFRC Meat Research Institute Andrew developed a commercial electrical stimulator for beef and conducted extensive research into the electrical stimulation of lamb.  Electrical stimulation accelerates the post mortem rigor changes and allows faster chilling without toughening of the meat.
